Peter McElroy of Ridgefield Park passed away on July 13, 2026 at age 85.  He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Therese (nee Hoar) son, Peter, daughters, Maureen & Eileen, granddaughter, Morgan, brother Edward and like a daughter, Sharon Jarvis, her husband Mike and children Thea, Alex and Davy.  He is predeceased, by his parents, James and Susan (nee Cosgrove) aunt and uncle, Rose and Martin Ward and brothers James & Michael Patrick.  He was a loyal parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Ridgefield Park.  He was employed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 164 for over 50 years.  He was a Navy veteran and also served in the reserves and retired with 26 years of service.  He was a member of the VFW Post 277 in Ridgefield Park and Post 809 in Little Ferry and the American Legion Post 117 in Bogota and Post 310 in Little Ferry.  He also was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, where he retired as Grand Marshal.  He was involved in Ridgefield Park Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was Cub Master Pack 4, Weblo Leader, and Assistant Scout Master of Troops 2 & 3.  He loved word searches, ice cream, and trains.

A Visitation in Peter's honor will be held on Monday, July 20th, beginning at 4 P.M. and concluding at 8 P.M.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21st, 9:30 A.M. at St. Francis R.C. Church, Ridgefield Park.  Interment to follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown.
