Mildred Louise Kostroun

November 15, 1923 — October 1, 2023

Mildred “Millie” Louise Kostroun (nee Balala), lifelong resident of Little Ferry, passed away at home with her loving son William and devoted caregiver Sue by her side on Sunday, October 1, 2023 1 month shy of her 100th birthday. She was the beloved wife of the late William A. Kostroun. Millie was survived by Lynn J. Smith and her husband Pete, and William M. Kostroun and Sue. The greatest joy in her life were her cherished grandchildren Justin and Ryan, and great grandchildren Abbie, Claire, Landon, Julian, Carter, Sawyer, and Liam. She is predeceased by her brothers and a sister.


Millie was born in Little Ferry, NJ to Katherine (nee Gabor) and Michael Balala. During WWII she was working the switchboard as an operator when Pearl Harbor was attacked . She also worked for Prentice Hall for many years before her retirement. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Little Ferry Hose Company #1. Millie loved to go shopping and attending Sunday Mass. She enjoyed spending her summers relaxing with friends in Ocean Beach II. She baked delicious desserts and loved to cook and clean freshly caught crabs down the Jersey shore. Millie was a joy to be around and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.




A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 8th from 2-6. Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, October, 9th,11:30 A.M at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Rochelle Park followed by internment with her late husband William at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus. Donations can be made to Little Ferry Hose Co #1.
